It’s a Wrap: Key Takeaways and Sources from March 2018’s 10th WorkforceNEXT Energy Summit: “Thriving in an Age of Disruption”

Leaving last week’s WorkforceNext Summit, I was energized and excited with what is on the horizon for our industry: From digital rigs and “smart” helmets to agile teams and digital talent.

The integration of technology with the talent topics was key to preparing for what is happening now and over the next few years. As one speaker noted, “Without understanding the digital transformation impacts on culture and talent, your company could become a victim of disruption”.

What a great day of insights, ideas, and interactions! There were several key takeaways I took from the day. Here are the key ones I captured:

  1. Think about Your Water: Culture change is essential for the execution of any digital transformation strategy.

If any parameter is “0” then the entire formula fails

  1. Identify Competencies before you define the Curriculum. Understand the needs and effects that Competencies should address.
  1. Don’t think of Digital Transformation as destination, think of it as a continuum.
  2. Design your tech platform for your younger, digital-savvy workforce.
  3. Leverage virtual classrooms & social learning.
  4. Shift towards “mission-based” teams that are agile & continuous in outcome deployments aligned to the strategy.
  5. The pace of transformation will only increase.
  6. There has to be commitment to change from the top.
